What’s New @ Loyola’s Health Sciences Library

Staff News: June 2008

With sadness, the Library says goodbye to several staff members this summer. All have contributed greatly to the Library’s success and service to our users. We wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.

Anthony Molaro, the Library’s Reference & e-Learning Assistant, receives his Masters in Library and Information Science from Dominican University this summer. He will start his professional library career as Assistant Professor, Liaison to Area Studies, at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI. Tony’s last day is Friday, June 6th.

Samantha Meyer has been the Library’s Cataloging Assistant for past 3.5 years. She has also been instrumental in the success of the Library’s Health-E Illinois project and blog. Sam is off to Nebraska with her husband and son. Sam’s husband, who has just finished his pathology residency here at Loyola, will start a pathology fellowship at the University of Nebraska at Omaha this July.

Anyone who has used a LCD projector or checked out a DVD at the Library’s Learning Resources center, knows Jake Giovingo. Jake has been accepted into the JET Programme (The Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme ). Jake will teach English Language skills to Japanese students. Jake’s last day will will be July 22nd.

Spotlight on: BMJ Clinical Evidence

BMJ Clinical Evidence is a decision-support resource published by the BMJ Publishing Group Limited. BMJ Clinical Evidence is an evidence based medicine tool which uses systematic reviews that digest the current state of knowledge about prevention or treatment of diseases or conditions. The editors thoroughly search and appraise the relevant literature. For each review, the literature is searched in Medline, Embase, the Cochrane Library and other databases. The Editorial Director is David Tovey FRCGP and the Editor is Dr. Charles Young,
This resource covers over 3,700 clinical interventions for nearly 230 diseases or conditions. Each review contains evidence summaries, key points, background information, updates and links to major clinical guidelines.
You can access BMJ Clinical Evidence from the Library’s E-Resources page at http://library.luhs.org/home_eresources.htm. This resource is similar to UpToDate and is available both on campus and remotely.
